March in New England is sometimes semi-affectionately called "mud season," and Franklin's been thoroughly enjoying it. Here he is after being mauled (playfully!) by a full-sized Golden Retriever puppy. I think he's half proud, half annoyed: And here he is on a trek down a half-drowned meadow pathway. Don't wait for perfect weather to get outside! It's always worth it.
xo I wouldn't say Franklin likes being held, but he will sometimes tolerate it. I consider these forced snuggles as his payment to me for all of the food and shelter and health care I give him.
Here's a nice action shot of Franklin trotting across a plank bridge in Montague, MA yesterday. Bonus shot: While taking a shot of interesting ice on the same stream shown above, I got photo bombed. xo!
I took Franklin on my trip to NYC last weekend. We stayed at my sister's apartment in Brooklyn, and her two kids are big fans. My 12-year-old niece drew a quick sketch of Franklin on their family's whiteboard.
Unfortunately I didn't get a chance to ask about the papier mache Egyptian dog helmet, or how shark bags are used. xo! We woke up to unexpected snow, after a muddy, well-above-freezing day yesterday. February's gotta be February, right? Here's Franklin getting in some important lap time in between snowy romp sessions. xo!
He's a pro at both mountain pose and downward facing dog. These shots were taken today, after I tore myself from the computer to go downstairs and see him. Note the motion-blurred tail.
He's got legs, and he knows how to use them (to run around in circles, to dig up treasures in the dirt, and to paw at your clean pants). The foreshortening of this photo makes him look like a big-pawed puppy, though he's at least two years old.
It's currently white and snowy where I live. What you can't see in the photo is the layer of ice an inch or so below the fluffy snow, making each step an adventure in traction and gravity. Franklin is lucky to have built-in Yak Trax on all four feet.
It's deer-hunting season (shotgun edition), but that doesn't slow Franklin down; it just cramps his style, as I force him to wear the hated safety vest. I take him for hikes almost much every day, pretty weather or no. And it is very hard to get him to pause for a photo. Here I tried to get him sit long enough to get him and that gorgeous waterfall behind him in the shot. I sort of succeeded, but only through sheer luck. xo!
